Caught in the Web

March/April 08 - Online Calculation

Welcome to our regular round up of astrology on the Internet. There is no doubt that there is a lot of good astrology and astrological information to be found on the World Wide Web, but equally some are not so good. Each issue we will be looking at some of the better astrology sites and astrological communities on the Internet.

We’ve all probably got whizz bang astrology software on our PCs but what do you do if you are away from your much trusted PC and want to run off a quick chart or do some other calculations? If you are in an Internet café, have access to a friend’s computer, or even (whisper it) in front of a PC in work, then there are various resources on the Internet to come to your aid. I’ve listed a few here, if you know of any more please do contact me so that I can review them for later issues.

Astro.com http://www.astro.com

Astro.com, also known as Astrodienst, is possibly the most well know chart calculation site. You don’t even have to register with the site to calculate a chart, though if you do you can save your details for use at a later date. As well as basic chart calculation you can calculate solar returns, transits, progressions, synastry charts, midpoint comparisons, the list seems endless. As well as ‘extended chart drawings, other useful tools for astrologers included in the free ‘horoscope’ selection, which include free reports plus daily and ‘astro click’ areas. You can also find a 6000 year ephemeris and a searchable database for finding latitude and longitude of almost anywhere in the world. There is no doubt that this site is one of the best resources for astrologers on the web

Clairvision Virtual Astrologer http://astro.clairvision.org

A long serving AA member recently pointed me to this web site Again you can calculate a chart and again you can save them, the difference here is that you save them to your hard drive and not online. Clairvision offers natal chart drawings and various synastry and progressions methods. Pluses are that the charts are clear and easy to read. Everything is highly configurable on this site, including orbs, colours of planets, and signs etc. Minus points; the interpretations are a bit too esoteric for my liking, and navigation can be a bit clunky. But as a new kid on the block it’s worth keeping an eye on this site

Online Moon Calendar http://lunarhouse.com/moon

This is a marvellous site for all things lunar related. It has instant information about the current moon position including the current phase and any major aspects the moon will make. The site also lists suggestions for favourable actions and less favourable actions for each moon sign and phase, as well as information ton the planetary day and hour. There is a lot of lunar information contained on this website, it is well worth exploring.

Online Ephemeris and Aspectarian http://www.khaldea.com

Khaldea offer an online ephemeris, useful for a quick glance if you are on the fly. All positions are set for 00:00 hours GMT and each month shows a comprehensive aspectarian. At the same site you can find a very attractive looking online astrological calendar, unfortunately GMT is not amongst the time options here.
