Themed Evening: The Quincunx & The Yod 7.30 pm. The quincunx aspect of 150 degrees is generally regarded as bringing a particular tension to the planets involved. Tonight we consider this and the aspect configuration known as the Yod, or 'Hand of God', which involves two sextiled planets in quincunx to a third. Bring along your chart data or those of friends or relatives to be discussed. If time allows we will also look at the charts of some famous people with noteable quincunxes or even Yods. Facilitator: Janice. At the Theosophical Society, 28 Great King Street, Edinburgh.

Sun Sign Astrology: Just a Way to Sell Newspapers?
Reviled by sceptics and ‘real’ astrologers, newspaper Sun sign forecasts remain our craft’s main calling card. Are they ‘dumbing down’ astrology? Or does their simplicity and popularity make them a perfect fit for modern times? Neil Spencer argues the case for Sun sign forecasts, explains the techniques behind them, and challenges the audience to write a newspaper forecast of their own!
Journalist and screenwriter Neil Spencer writes a weekly Sun sign column for The Observer Magazine. He is the author of True As the Stars Above (Gollancz 2000), described by The Mountain Astrologer as ‘erudite and a pleasure to read’. 8:00 pm. Blindspots and Breakthroughs: Understanding the Quincunx With Lynn Bell. Planets in quincunx have a very tense, misfit relationship, often experienced as immense frustration or locked up energy; but they can be liberated through an eccentric creativity. Richard Idemon described them as 'more opposite than oppositions,' but also explored the humor and erotic energy contained in the aspect. Each Yod links signs with very different natures; the Aries Virgo relationship has a distinctly different dynamic than the one between Aries and Scorpio, and the same can be said for all twelve combinations. We will explore them in depth in order to understand how to break through the initial limitations described by these aspects, and harness the tremendous transformative power of the Yod. Soul Purpose or Soul Imperative? With Judy Hall.
Karmic astrology believes that there is a purpose to incarnation, a Soul intention to grow and evolve. But can we ascertain our true purpose from the Chart and are there other factors that can intervene? To bring greater clarity to our Soul's journey, Judy will consider it from a higher vibrational level as well as from the placement of the Moon/Saturn/Neptune and the North and South Nodes, to help us understand the challenges, expectations and ingrained patterns shown in the Chart and the karmic lessons to be learned.

From The Water-Bearer To The Waters: Neptune's Advent Into Pisces With Liz Greene. This seminar will explore the meanings of Neptune as it traverses the last decanate of Aquarius and gradually approaches its fourteen-year transit through Pisces, the sign which many modern astrologers believe it rules. We will look at the meaning of Neptune in transit and the historical precedents for this impending shift from air to water, from fixed to mutable, and from the belief in the redemptive power of collective identity and technology to the belief in the redemptive power of the Otherworld and the mysteries of the human psyche and soul. Facing up to Reality? Pluto's Passage into Capricorn With Pluto about to move back into Capricorn after the recent finishing of its Sagittarian business, we look at what this major change of energy marks for the planet and us personally. After spending some time examining the Pluto archetype, we will consider how this has manifested during its fourteen years in Sagittarius - religious fundamentalism, credit boom, the global village ? How has its transits to your own chart reflected in your life ?
The shift into earthy Capricorn could mean a double dose of reality as we have to face the challenges of making our life on this planet sustainable. Its first shift into Capricorn was marked by the advent of a "credit crunch" and we may see challenges to systems of government and maybe a new understanding of how the universe works. Pluto will also square Saturn next year and Uranus in 2012 in a period when Neptune returns to its own sign of Pisces. 8:00 pm. A meeting of the Aqurius Severn Astrology group, Cheltenham. The Dawn of Astrology Tutor: Nicholas Campion. Western astrology as we know it seems to have emerged sometime between 500 and 200 BCE. But its origins probably date back to the dawn of human consciousness, when humans first made the connection between the Sun and light, or between the Moon and the tides. This workshop, based on the latest material from Nick's book, The Dawn of Astrology, will examine previously hard-to-find evidence concerning the use of the sky as a source of meaning of wisdom, examine the development of thinking on megalithic astronomy and look at the contributions of Egypt and Babylon to the origins of western astrology.
Venue: Connaught Halls, 36-45 Tavistock Sq, London WC1 H 9EX (5 mins from Euston Station), 10.30am until 5.30pm. Cost: £50 (£45 LSA students). To book: 020 8402 7772, admin@londonschoolofastrology.co.uk, www.londonschoolofastrology.co.uk

From Attraction to Seduction, from Intimacy to Heaven: Astrology and Sexuality with Alexander von Schlieffen. In an astrologer’s practice, love and relationship are among the most requested topics for discussion. But what about sexuality and desire? We tend to circumnavigate these issues. What a shame for the client, who could really profit from a profound understanding of their own innate love patterns. In this new seminar, we’ll be exploring how birth charts reveal sexuality and desire. A major clue is the square between the 5th and the 8th houses. We’ll also compare the 12th, 7th and 4th houses and study links from Saturn, Uranus and Neptune to the personal planets. Venue: Resource Centre, 356 Holloway Road, N7 6PA. Cost: £50 (£45 LSA students). To book: 020 8402 7772, admin@londonschoolofastrology.co.uk, www.londonschoolofastrology.co.uk |

Plutonic themes: Pluto and the 8th House With Karen Hamaker-Zondag. Few people understand what they do with their own Pluto, it seems as if he has his mythological cap of invisibility on his head when we try to look at ourselves. How is Pluto acting out in your chart, and in which ways you are confronted with it? What can you do with Pluto? I will consider Pluto in the houses and in aspect to planets and house-rulers. What kind of pain does he causes and how does his transformation processes work? And how about questions of shadow and guilt? The 8th house has a special dynamic, and we feel a kind of love and hate at the same time towards its contents. We'll explore why this is the case, and how we can understand its dynamics to cope with our problems in daily life. We'll learn how to delineate planets in the 8th and in aspect to the ruler of the 8th house. Pluto in transit very often brings us things we don't expect; also good ones. But we always have to pay a certain price for it, sometimes more than we thought, often a different price than expected, and Pluto confronts us with contents and situations of a specific kind. I'll show what Pluto tends to bring, and what would be the best attitude to work with what shows up.
