Northern Lights Astrological Society - We do like to be beside the seaside!

October 2014

The Blackpool based Northern Lights Astrological Society was formed in October 1992 and is still going strong today. The aims of the group are simple, to promote Astrology in the North West, to educate its members and the public on all aspects of astrology and to provide a base for like-minded people to meet, socialize and share astrological knowledge.

The Society meets in a private room on the first Tuesday of the month, at Blackpool Cricket Club, West Park Drive, Blackpool at 8pm. All of the Society's meetings are open to the public and new faces are always assured a warm welcome. (And in the summer the sound of leather on willow as the room overlooks the cricket pitch!)

There are no meetings in December when instead the Society hosts an Annual Christmas Lunch with a special Guest Speaker, three course meal and grand raffle. The event takes place at the Glendower Hotel on the promenade at St Annes on Sea just down the coast from us and attracts dozens of astrologers from all over the North West and beyond. Past speakers include Sue Tomkins, Roy Gillett, Frank Clifford, Sasha Fenton, Bernard Eccles and Russell Grant.

At our monthly meetings there is always a speaker, either from our own group or a guest speaker from the North West, National or even International such as Sergei Smellikov from the Ukraine and Courtney Roberts from America. Recent meetings have seen talks about: Chart Interpretation; The life and chart of Gustav Holst who composed The Planets Suite; Astrology, Karma, Fate and Freewill; Men, Moon and Mountains and Spiritual Astrology.

There is small admission charge on the door and also a fun prize raffle with prizes kindly donated by the members. Often everyone at the meeting goes home with a prize! Over the years the club has also run tutorials, workshops, taken part in International Astrology day at the local main library and organised social events such as bring and buy sales and barbecues. Many of the members meet on other occasions and some have organised classes, workshops and even conferences of their own which club members have given great support to.

The club's members range from complete beginners to Professional Astrologers and there is always something for everyone at Northern Lights. The club's president is the famous TV astrologer and star of Strictly Come Dancing Russell Grant who attends meetings whenever he can.

Since 1996 the club has published its own quarterly newsletter ICARUS which is written by the members for its members. The latest edition is number 76 and went out at the Autumn Equinox. Each edition features a few articles as well as predictions for the coming three months based on the equinox or solstice chart for that period as well as all the Club News. All members receive the newsletter as part of their annual subscription and non-members can subscribe to it too.
