The Astrology of Gordon Brown becoming British Prime Minister

Gordon Brown enters No. 10

With Moon entering Sagittarius at 1326, just after Tony Blair had offered his resignation to Queen Elizabeth, the changeover felt inevitable, appropriate and liberating.

When Gordon Brown’s car stopped in Buckingham Palace yard, the Part of Fortune was exactly trined the Sun. By 1351 BST, the Part of Fortune was trining Mercury even nearer the MC and he was with the Her Majesty. At 1401 the MC trined Uranus exactly. It would be interesting to know at which of the last two moments Gordon Brown agreed to be Prime Minster. As the Part of Fortune applied to square Jupiter at 1418, it became clear that their time together would be extended; in all it was a 58 minute audience.

However, in the light of what happened in the days immediately afterward, the chart we have here for his entry to 10 Downing Street for the first time as Prime Minister is even more interesting. Note that the Midheaven is just three minutes of arc short of an exact square to Mars in Taurus in the seventh house. The afflicted Mars reminds of George Bush’s 2001 inauguration chart!

A new style of leadership becomes immediately apparent, when we compare Gordon Brown’s speech before this entry to 10 Downing Street, with what happened in the first twenty four hours in his new role. The strong twelfth house Piscean uncertainty led to an awkward, self-effacing, modestly presented speech**. Yet, the appointments to the new cabinet were breathtaking in their flair, originality and the clear thought he had put into them. The country seemed to be getting far better that his words and manner promised. This is the exact opposite to what tended to follow the 10th house Moon / North Node panache of his predecessor.

It will take longer to learn, if the liberation of the new Prime Minister’s Piscean qualities will bring further healing to the angst of public life. Certainly, the intense rain that dominated Britain during the build up and immediate aftermath of these events was auspicious and very Piscean.

If we look beyond personalities and presentation to the larger scheme of things, the astrology of Tony Blair’s karma could not be starker. His last full day in office, 26th June 2007, saw the completion of the Saturn / Neptune opposition that clearly shows the karmic consequences of his Jupiter / Neptune Iraq flirtation with George Bush in 2002/3. Not only was it appropriate that he could not hold on to his job beyond that date, but also that immediately he left it he accepted the Middle East Envoy role. If Iraq is not to be Tony Blair’s legacy in history then perhaps he is destined to be a key force in the resolution of this central world problem. One is reminded of Ronald Reagan making peace with the very USSR power bloc he had become elected by calling the “evil empire”.
