Join us to celebrate our 50th Birthday and 40th Conference

19-22 September 2008

Staverton Park Conference Centre, near Stratford-on-Avon

Special features of this year's celebration conference:

At this year's special Annual Conference we will be celebrating the Carter Memorial Lecture tradition, not with one Carter Memorial speaker but with cameos from previous speakers, including Bernadette Brady, Darby Costello, Nick Campion, Roy Gillett, Mike Harding, Lindsay Radermacher, Sue Tompkins and more.

There will be a video link to The Blast Conference in Sedona, Arizona, with presentations from Rob Hand and others. One of the speakers at the Blast conference, Ben Dykes, will be travelling to take part in our conference and we hope to track his journey with via video link and astrolocality astrology!

There will be an Astrologers' Feast on the evening of Saturday 21 September 2008. In grand seventeenth century style, this will be a time when astrologers of all traditions and persuasions come together to eat drink, toast and support each other in a celebration of the greatness of the wisdom we share.

This year's fantastic range of speakers includes Lynne Bell, Bernadette Brady, Geoffrey Cornelius, Darby Costello, Robert Currey, Martin Davis, Ben Dykes, John Etherington, Sasha Fenton, Liz Greene, John Green, Mike Harding, Michael Lutin, Chris Mitchell, Alan Oken, Lindsay Radermacher, Luis Ribeiro with Helena Avelar, Komilla Sutton, Sue Tompkins and many more, including speakers from various APAE schools and organisations.

For more information, go to the Conference 2008 page. You can book online via the online shop

For our special Golden Anniversary edition of the Astrological Journal, we are compiling a history of the Carter Memorial Lectures since 1971. There are two gaps in our records, can you help? If you know who gave the lectures in 1974 and 1976 and what subjects they spoke on, please email Roy Gillett at or contact the AA office.

Celebrating the AA's 5th Solar Return at Stonehenge, 20 June 2008

Join our President, Roy Gillett in celebrating the Summer Solstice by watching the sunset at Stonehenge. For this one night of the year it is even possible to stay at the Stones all night and watch sunrise, if you wish. Special buses are arranged from Salisbury rail and bus stations with an easy walk of the Stones. Further details will be available nearer the time. If you would like to register your interest, please email with the subject line "Summer Solstice".

Wherever you are in the world during the Solar Return on Friday evening at 22:24:26 BST (21:24:26 UT) on 20 June 2008, you are invited to take a moment to turn your mind to the Association and its work for astrology and celebrate in your own way.

Celebrating the AA's 50th Birthday Party at the Union Pub, Marylebone, London, 21 June 2008

Join us for a casual get together to reminisce about the first 50 years of the Astrological Association. All members and supporters are welcome to join us from 7pm at the Union Pub, 88-90 George Street, London, W1U 8PA. Entrance is free, food and drinks can be ordered separately as required (you will need to pay for these). If you wish to order dinner, please let us know by 10 June at latest, at the following email address:

Are you, or someone you know, the AA's longest serving member?

The response to our announcement in the Directions e-newsletter was fantastic. Nicholas Campion's 30 years of membership was soon overtaken by Val Dobson (31 years) and Dawn Kovan (32 years), and then by Pamela Crane (38 years) and Valerie Martin (39 years). The next day, an email was received from Julia Parker in Australia, advising she joined in 1967 (41 years). She was soon surpassed by her friend, Chester Kemp, who joined in 1964 (44 years). Can you or a friend beat Chester's record? If so, please email Roy Gillett at or contact the AA office.

(If you would like to subscribe to the AA's e-newsletter, Directions, please email or use the website link to sign up).

Do you have memories of moments in the Association's history you would like to share - maybe a photo or a narrative description?  Gerasime Patilas is preparing a special Golden Anniversary Edition of the Journal, which will be available just after our birthday at the end June. Please send any contributions to him at
