This year we are planning a very special anniversary conference at Staverton Conference Park, Daventry, Northamptonshire, between 19-21 September, with optional pre-conference masterclasses with Alan Oken or Bernadette Brady on 19 September and optional workshops with Liz Greene or Benjamin Dykes on 22 September. The venue offers excellent facilities, accommodation and dining.

The fantastic line-up of speakers will include:

As well as honouring the Carter Memorial Lecture with cameo talks from previous presenters, we will be linking with Robert Hand and others at The Blast conference in Arizona, USA, on Friday 19th September. There will be an Astrologers’ Feast on the Saturday evening. Expect lots of surprises at this event, plus a pre-dinner Panel of Founders and Long-Standing Members, to include founder-member Dr Mary Austin, Helen Hain (a member since 1959), Tim and Crystal Addey (John Addey's son and granddaughter) and Peter Firebrace (Brigadier Firebrace’s grandson) and chaired by long-standing AA Member and ex-Vice President Chester Kemp.

Special Discount to Long-Standing Members

This year, to honour long-standing AA Members, friends and supporters, we would like to offer anyone who became a member of the AA in 1969 or earlier a heavily subsidised HALF PRICE discount to attend our residential conference. Please contact the office for details.

Sharing Transport to the Venue

Anyone who would like to share a taxi from Northampton or Rugby train stations, please get in touch with the office and we will try to match you with others arriving at the same time.

Silent Auction

Do you have any goods or services that you would like to donate to this year’s Silent Auction at the AA Conference? All the proceeds from the auction will go toward the AA’s initiatives such as the Ada Phillips Scholarship, which funds 2 free conference places to promising students from APAE schools. Annual General Meeting

As announced in previous mailings, this year’s AGM will be held on Saturday 20 September 2008, at 13:30pm, at the Staverton Park Conference Centre, Staverton, Daventry, Northamptonshire NN11 6JT. The Treasurer’s report and Accounts are included with this mailing.

New Editor of the Astrological Journal

We would like to give a warm welcome to John Green, who will be the new Editor of The Astrological Journal from the Nov/Dec issue.  We look forward to seeing his ideas for the Journal, which includes a possible change in size. Members are invited to view samples of the proposed size and layout on the AA Website at (in the Members' section - you will need your password and PIN).  We would very much like to receive your feedback on this, so please remember to take a look.John will also be available at this year's anniversary conference and looks forward to discussing his ideas with you there.

As you will be aware from the editorial page in the Astrological Journal, we are sorry to be saying goodbye to Gerasime Patilas, who has done an incredible job editing the Journal over the last eight years. Gerasime has been an enormous pleasure to work with and has consistently and conscientiously produced top quality journals, for which we are extremely grateful. We would like to thank him on behalf of the Association for all his hard work above and beyond the call of duty and wish him all the best with his future ventures.

Kepler Day Research Conference – Saturday 22 November 2008: The Social Sciences and Humanities Investigate the Value of Astrology and its Future

This year’s Kepler Day Research Conference will take place on Saturday 22 November 2008, 10am-5pm, at Connaught Hall, 36-45 Tavistock Square, London WC1H 9EX. It is being organised and sponsored by the Sophia Centre, University of Wales, Lampeter, the Research Group for the Critical Study of Astrology and the Astrological Association. The conference is a forum for research in astrology in the humanities and social sciences, with speakers and discussion.

Pluto Enters Capricorn: Transforming the Field of Fear?

This event day with Melanie Reinhart will take place on Saturday 29 November, from 10.30-16.30, at Bosham House, Bosham, Chichester, PO18 8PJ. The cost of the seminar is £35 for AA members (£30 early-bird price for members who book before 30th Sept 2008). Temporary membership is available for £10 for non-AA members who wish to attend.
