Astrological Lodge of London: Lilly’s medical judgements; Scientists loving astrologers

Every Monday evening. First talk 19:00, second talk 20:30. One ticket covers both talks.

19:00 William Lilly and his Medical Judgements: Barbara Dunn

This paper draws on Barbara’s archival PhD research, which explores the use of astrology in early modern medicine. A selection of medical Interrogations (Horaries) from William Lilly’s casebooks and other manuscripts are examined.

20:30 Why religious people and scientists should love astrologers: Chris Mitchell

Sometimes it seems like everyone hates astrologers. Funny old thing, though, after a shaky start, the church found that it needed astrology and by the Middle Ages astrology was enthusiastically promoted by Popes and monarchs.
